BitKeep, Exodus, MetaMask? The Five Best Free Multi-Asset Wallet Apps

The growth of the cryptocurrency sector over the past 5 years has resulted in a plethora of assets and their respective blockchains.

With the increase in networks, the ability to connect to multiple blockchains from a single wallet application has become increasingly beneficial. Additionally, wallet apps that allow users to swap assets from within the app, even cross chain, and let you view, store, and trade NFTs.

With those points in mind, we’ve assembled a list of the 5 best multi-asset crypto wallet apps that are available to you for free. We’ll give a brief explanation of each wallet’s offerings, along with any potential shortcomings.

BitKeep is a one-stop shop for crypto

Best of the Best

In no particular order, here are five cryptocurrency wallet apps you can get for free that give you multi-asset support.

Some of these wallet apps have hardware support as well, meaning you can connect your Ledger, Trezor, or other hardware wallet to them:

BitKeep is a newer player to the scene though the company was founded in 2018. BitKeep launched its DeFi connectivity in late 2020, with swapping being added in early 2021.

BitKeep allows users to connect to over 75 blockchain networks and the respective dApps such as DEXs and NFT marketplaces, which is almost unmatched in the crypto world.  Basically you only need one account to manage multiple multi-chain assets. It’s available for iOS, Android, and as a browser extension. BitKeep has an easy to search dApp catalog and also allows you to swap across their supported blockchain networks. In total there are 30 built-in Swap protocols with seven cross-chain bridges integrated.

BitKeep also has an InstantGas feature that’s supported on Fantom, AVAX-C, Tron, Heco, OKX Chain, BSC, and Polygon, allowing users to pay for gas on any of these networks in USDT rather than the native asset. Using BitKeep you can easily stake any of the supported assets to their respective protocols too.

BitKeep is a great multi-asset wallet

Apart from the aforementioned InstantGas networks, BitKeep also supports Ethereum, Solana, Klaytn, Heco, OKX Chain mainnets for swaps and dApp support, which opens up a world of DeFi, NFTs and more. Instant token swap is available for a staggering 250,000 tokens. The BitKeep NFT marketplace is the first one that allows NFT purchases with any tokens, which has helped make it the biggest market place on BSC.

Perhaps the only knock against BitKeep is that there’s no hardware wallet support currently. BitKeep is a great option for new crypto users.

Exodus is one of the oldest crypto wallet apps available. The Exodus wallet is available as a desktop app for Windows, Mac, and Linux, as a mobile app for iOS and Android, and as a browser extension for Chrome and Brave. Exodus only offers hardware wallet support for Trezor such as the Trezor One and Trezor Model T. Exodus lets users stake directly to supported blockchain networks such as Algorand (ALGO) Tezos (XTZ), Cosmos (ATOM), Solana (SOL), and Cardano (ADA) to earn passive income.

Exodus wallet

Exodus allows you to interact directly with decentralized applications (dApps) on Ethereum and Solana and store your favorite NFTs for both. Exodus is adding Web3 support for other networks too, but at this time only supports those two networks. Overall, Exodus supports 230 cryptocurrencies across blockchains such as Bitcoin, Cardano, Binance Smart Chain, Cosmos, Avalanche, Solana, Ethereum, Stellar, and much more. In addition, you can swap nearly all of the supported assets directly within the wallet with some exceptions. Check here for a full list of supported assets. You can also make purchases of crypto using a credit or debit card through one of Exodus’ partners.

MetaMask is one of the most well-known crypto wallet apps available. It began as an Ethereum wallet but has since expanded its support to a much wider range of blockchain networks. MetaMask is available for both iOS and Android, and as a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, Brave, and Edge. The most popular chains you can connect to through MetaMask are Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Cronos, Fantom, and Avalanche, but there are more supported than that. You can also add custom networks through MetaMask. MetaMask has no support for Bitcoin, Cardano, Cosmos, and Solana, amongst others.

With MetaMask, users can interact with dApps and decentralized exchanges (DEXs) such as Uniswap, PancakeSwap, SushiSwap, and ShibaSwap. Connecting to NFT marketplaces such as OpenSea and BakerySwap is easy too. MetaMask also lets users stake and swap assets directly within the app. In addition, MetaMask supports cryptocurrency purchases through Google Pay, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and third party partners. It also supports a variety of hardware wallets for the MetaMask browser extension such as Ledger, Trezor, Lattice, and more.

Coinbase Wallet

The Coinbase Wallet, released by Coinbase Exchange, is a non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet available as a browser extension and a mobile app for iOS and Android. It supports connecting to Web3 dApps, while also allowing users to view and display their NFTs. The Coinbase Wallet supports all EVM-compatible blockchain networks including Avalanche, Ethereum, Polygon, Solana, and the Binance Smart Chain.

Though not explicitly mentioned, you should be able to stake using the Coinbase Wallet, at least for the assets it supports such as Solana and Polygon. Apart from the EVM networks, Coinbase Wallet supports Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Litecoin, Stellar, and Ripple networks for sending and receiving. Unlike many of the other apps on this page, the Coinbase Wallet has no built-in exchange, users will have to use a specific DEX or Coinbase Exchange.

Atomic Wallet

The Atomic Wallet is a cryptocurrency wallet and exchange app that supports over 300 cryptocurrencies and their blockchains. Atomic Wallet integrates an exchange directly in the wallet, letting you instantly swap between any supported assets. Founded in 2017, the Atomic Wallet supports multiple operating systems including Windows, MacOS, Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, Android, and iOS. Atomic Wallet lets users stake any of its supported assets that have staking capability such as Cardano, Solana, and Cosmos.

There’s also a cashback program whereby users can earn anywhere from 0.25-1% cashback on their swaps depending on the membership level, which is determined by the users Atomic Wallet Coin (AWC) holdings.

Unfortunately, the Atomic Wallet has no hardware wallet support. It’s Web3 compatible using the WalletConnect option, making it suitable for interacting with dApps. The Atomic Wallet can receive and send NFTs but cannot display them.
